Looking for Water?

Looking for a great local fishing spot? Or a place to explore in a kayak or canoe? Want to tube down the river, or just plain swim and have fun in the sun?

Look no further! Here is a list compiled by the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce to help you narrow down your search.

Lakes, Ponds and Rivers in the Plymouth region

Baker Ponds, Upper & Lower
A short drive off of Route 25-C in Wentworth with great fishing and boat access.
Baker River
Along Route 25 from Plymouth to Warren.  You can find great spots for swimming, canoeing and fishing.  Easy access from Route 25.
Fox Pond
This small pond in Plymouth, off of Langdon Street, is stocked with trout.  This makes a nice picnic spot with fishing for children.
Lake Tarleton
This lake off Route 25-C in Warren borders the White Mountain National Forest.  It is a natural body of water with wooded, undeveloped shoreline and good fishing, including both warm water and cold water fish.
Mad River
This river flows from its source in Waterville Valley to join the Pemigewasset in Campton.  Through much of its course, it travels through the White Mountain National Forest and parallels Route 49.
Mirror Lake
This lake is located just north of Exit 29 in Thornton.  You can visit this beautiful little lake for swimming, boating and fishing.
Newfound Lake
Located in Bristol and Hebron, this lake is seven miles long, spring fed, with 22 miles of shoreline.  It is also one of the clearest, cleanest lakes in the United States.  You can enjoy boating, fishing, and water-skiing during the warmer months.  It is a popular spot to enjoy the foliage in the fall, and ice fishing and snowmobiling during the winter.
Pemigewasset River
This river flows throughout the region from Thornton to Ashland.  You can launch your canoe right next to the Plymouth District Courthouse on Green Street and at the Cross Road in Thornton.  This river is excellent for fishing, swimming and picnicking.
Perch Pond
This pond off Route 175 in Campton is a popular fishing and boating spot.  Boat access is available, and there is a hiking trail around the pond.
Spectacle Pond
This pond is located on North Groton Road in Groton.  This lovely, out-of-the-way pond offers excellent fishing and boating.
Squam Lakes
These lakes are located in Holderness.  Big Squam is the lake made famous by the Hollywood movie, "On Golden Pond".  There are 65 miles of shoreline, 67 islands, and 10 miles of open waterway.  These lakes offer excellent fishing, boating, sailing, water-skiing, and swimming in warmer months, and ice fishing and cross country skiing during the winter.  Several cruise vendors offer tours to view the sights and listen to the loons.
Stinson Lake
This crystal clear, unspoiled mountain lake is located on Stinson Lake Road in Rumney.  It is excellent for trout fishing, and there is a public boat access ramp near the Stinson Lake Store.
